The Barometer Ink Stand Mid 1800's Ink Well

All the info I am giving is from information that was on the base including the patent date, what it was called and who made it. Unique and quite rare patent date 1861 Barometer Inkstand inkwell.
Appears to be all brass with glass well and insert. Made by the Cutter Tower Co. of Boston, Mass. “By self action, the dipping place is constantly kept filled with clear ink”.
You pour ink into the opening with unit on side until the glass resevoir is filled and then turn it over and the ink just flows to level of pen dipping area. Measures 5 1/8" across base x 3 1/2" tall overall. One small flake on edge of pen dipping glass but no other breaks, cracks or flakes in any of the glass.
You can see part of the glass resevoir thru old cork material on base. Quite heavy. Probably called a barometer inkwell as ink only leaves the larger well as ink is used in lower well and acts on barometric pressure? It has not been cleaned READ MORE
